About Us
Welcome to our website!
Thank you for stopping by! We are excited to share some helpful information so you can quickly get to know us better!
Broadly speaking, we believe that…
THE CHURCH…
…exists for the glory of God alone. The local church is an assembly of believers who display, preserve and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
HUMAN BEINGS…
…were created to be in relationship with God. However, All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and so, that relationship was restored by the grace of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, according to scripture, for the glory of God.
WE GATHER…
…together frequently as a church (not a building, but a group of people) to bring glory to God through singing with one another, praying for one another, hearing God’s Word proclaimed, and unifying in love for God and one another. We use this time to oversee the Ordinances of the New Testament church of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism.
THE SERMONS…
…are primarily expositional, which means, that the messages are grounded in Scriptural structure, emphasis, context, meaning, and application as we draw from the well of God’s Word to expose the intended message that the Holy Spirit inspired. We do have specific seasons within our flow of Expositional series which include some “thematic” series, however, the agenda is set by scripture and usually covering our statement of faith or other theological topics. THE MUSIC…
…is a blend of modern and traditional music, and we pay close attention that the songs we sing have sound doctrine which teaches the gospel to declare the glory of God. We sing many songs from artists like CityAlight, Matt Papa, Austin Stone, Shane & Shane, Keith & Kristen Getty, Sovereign Grace Chapel, and more. (Link: Listen to our Music)
THE CULTURE…
… our weekly corporate Sunday morning gatherings consist of anywhere between 70-90 imperfect people who are warm & welcoming (believers and unbelievers) from all stages of life, all ethnic backgrounds, all ages, all economical statuses, and many cultures/races. We are truly multi-generational and multi-ethnical and we would love for you to help us serve God together so that God may be glorified inside and outside of our building.
OUR HISTORY…
This church was established in 2004. The gathering began in an apartment, then a coffee shop, then Valley Christian Schools, then Oakland Theater, and now on 801 Wick Avenue. We have been in our current location since 2007
OUR CONFESSION…
… we adhere to the 2nd London Baptist Confession of Faith 1689
OUR GOVERNMENT…
…we are Elder-led, Deacon Supported, and Congregation Affirmed.
LOCATION
BUILDING HISTORY: This building was constructed in 1905, and has a rich legacy and serves as a landmark on the Northside. It originally housed an offshoot congregation of the 1st Presbyterian Church and had a very wealthy congregation with many prominent North Side members. Commissioned to do the design was prominent Youngstown architect Charles Henry Owsley. Clad in limestone over a metal frame, the church once contained two Tiffany Studios stained glass windows and was designed in what commonly is referred to as a ‘cruciform’ shape. The Neo-Gothic designed church included one-of-a-kind door hardware, wood-framed windows/doors, a porte-cochere, and the Tiffany stained glass windows.
